What is CBDa?

CBDa (Cannabidiolic acid) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid.

It is the acidic precursor to CBD. CBDa converts to CBD through decarboxylation, which occurs when cannabis is exposed to heat or sunlight.

CBDa can be consumed by juicing with raw cannabis, and may also be found in tinctures, topicals and capsules. CBDa shows promise as an anticonvulsant, anti-nausea, analgesic and anti-inflammatory. CBDa may also have antibacterial, antioxidant and cancer preventing properties.

Because CBDa converts to CBD through decarboxylation, most CBD oils being sold today has very little to no CBDa in it. However, there new processes being researched and created every day that will continue to improve the quality of CBD and improve the health benefits received from high quality lab tested CBD products.

What Are Some  Benefits of CBDa?

CBDa does not carry any psychoactive effects. There are many potential benefits with studies showing that CBDa has positive effects when taken alone or in combination with other cannabinoids.

  • Anti-proliferative – prevents cancer cell migration, noted specifically in cases of aggressive breast cancer. (Source)

  • Antiemetic – reduces nausea and vomiting. (Source)

  • Anti-inflammatory and pain reduction through COX-2 inhibition. (Source)

  • Positive effect on seizures for the treatment of epilepsy, also when used in combination with CBD. (Source)

  • Anti-anxiety effects. (Source)

  • Potential anti-depressive effects through 5-HT1A receptor activation. (Source)

While more and more studies are being conducted, the results coming out so far seem to show that we are just learning the positive benefits of CBDa. Which makes sense, because CBD comes from CBDa.

If you haven’t tried CBD yet, you may want to consider it.
